When you have a song called "The Karate Kid," you HAVE to get THE Karate Kid himself for your music video — and that's just what Coldplay did.
Coldplay shared their music video for "The Karate Kid," which appears on the "Full Moon" deluxe edition of their latest album and co-produced by The 1975's Matty Healy, Moon Music, and it features the one and only Ralph Macchio, who played Daniel LaRusso in the beloved 1984 original film as well as spinoff Netflix series Cobra Kai.
In the "The Karate Kid" music video, Macchio sets up a keyboard in the park and performs the song as a busker, then moving his act to a busier area of the city. Discouraged after not doing so hot, Ralph found himself at a Coldplay concert, and helped out Chris Martin who lost his voice, joining him on stage.
In a statement, the actor explained of his starring role, "When Chris Martin pops up on your FaceTime asking you to help create a video to accompany what I found to be a beautifully emotional and poignant song – one inspired by a film I made over 40 years ago – there was only one answer. Having the opportunity to join Coldplay in Australia at one of their legendary live shows to collaborate on this music video was nothing short of a career highlight. The synergy with Chris, the band, and our director Chris Candy was as pure as any I’ve experienced. I’m excited to share this with the world."
